The GII* church of St Laurence in East Harptree dates from the late C12 and b2 architects oversaw a significant fabric repair project in 2022/23. Today we visited to host a visit from the St Andrew’s Conservation Trust, to thank them for their generous support.
The project involved masonry work, lead roofing and conservation of the bells, stained glass and C13 and C19 decorative paint schemes.
A highlight of the project was the revealing of the C19 paint which was part of a G.E.Street reordering. The decorative paint had been overpainted in the early C20 with a white vinyl emulsion; removing this has restored the chancel to its Victorian gothic revivalist appearance, creating a striking impression.
