The Walronds
Cullompton

benjamin+beauchamp architects worked with The Cullompton Walronds Preservation Trust for more than five years on the repair and conservation of this early 17th Century Grade I listed town house. The house was on the EH ‘at risk’ register and includes many original floor, wall and decorative ceiling finishes as well as ornate overmantles and fireplaces dating from 1605. The building works were completed in 2015 and subsequently won an AABC Civic Trust Award in 2015.

The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage, Devon County Council and other generous funders. Community facilities, which are available for hire, were provided on the ground floor.

b2 architects carried out extensive investigations prior to preparing the specifications. The project was shortlisted for the English Heritage ‘Angel Awards’ in the category ‘Best Rescue of Any Other Type of Historic Building or Site’ and was presented with a Highly Commended Award in the Building Conservation category at the RICS Southwest Awards 2015.
